Sade philosophy mixed with Counter-Culture sex and psychedelic in this
depraved French film from director Jacques Scandelari. It tells the story
of a young man who goes searching for his lover, a girl who has fallen
victim to a weird erotic cult. He discovers her, hidden away at a remote
mansion, with a group of perverse zealots. She is devoted to the cult
leader and plans to become his wife. The movie features tons of nudity,
groping, outrageous kinky makeup, homosexuals, lots of S&M, a psychedelic
prison and a torture dungeon. It was released in the USA for a limited
run in 1971, rated X.
Director Scandelari made only a handful of motion pictures,
this one being his most notorious. In the mid seventies, he left Paris
for New York where he helmed a variety of Adult XXX films under the name
Marvin Merkins. He would eventually return to France in the early '80s.
Mr Scandelari died from a heart attack in June 1999 at age 54.
