SWEET KILL: THE AROUSERS (1972) Tab Hunter Sleaze!
1616DVD
A
Revolutionary Bleak, Sex Roughie starring Tab Hunter
director:
Curtis Hanson
starring: Tab Hunter · Roberta Collins · Cherie Latimer
· Linda Leiger · Nadyne Turney
This is the first
film directed by Curtis Hanson, the filmmaker who rose to A-List status
by the end of the '90s with mega boxoffice hits like LA CONFIDENTIAL.
He has since retired from the director's seat due to his current bout with
Alzheimers.
This was a remarkable
motion picture for matinee heartthrob Tab Hunter. After two decades of
"safe" romantic comedies and musicals (DAMN YANKEES in 1958
was his biggest hit), Tab decided to shatter his wholesome image and tackle this bleak, ultra-sleazy psycho-slasher thriller. He plays Eddie Collins,
an impotent gym teacher whose sexual frustration manifests in grisly murder.
Eddie suffers from a sexual dysfunction, seemingly caused by an unnatural
attraction to his mother. Today, he can no longer control his rage as
he slices-n-dices his way through a collection of beautiful young ladies.
Tab Hunter had never played in anything this exploitative before but as
the years went on, he would embrace the Cult Movie genre with horror films
like GROTESQUE
and - of course - the John Waters badtaste excursion POLYESTER.
This film is also
known as THE AROUSERS and A KISS FROM EDDIE.
