· Olga Bisera · Ugo Cardea · Ogilvy Chiffon
Laura Gemser - long
associated with Joe D'Amato's Black
Emanuelle character - began her career at age 22 in this ultra-rare
Euro cult classic. The plot is surprisingly similar to the many 'Emanuelle'
that followed. Director Pier Ludovico Pavoni is much better known as a
cinematographer, lensing over 100 movies in his career, mostly in the
late '50s and '60s. His claim to fame is probably MILL
OF THE STONE WOMEN (1960) but he was also the major cameraman for
at least fifty sword-n-sandal films.
A young engineer named
Francesco is sent to Smeraldo Island to oversee tests for a silver mine.
But Francesco must also find out what happened to his predecessor who
had vanished without a trace. On the surface, the island is an Eden Paradise
with the native girls freely exploring joys of sex; however, there is
a secret lurking in the dark. Francesco soon finds himself in an exhilarating
romance with Janine (Gemser) but an unsettling atmosphere of Catholicism
and Voodoo plays havoc.
