In the late '70s,
director Joe
D'Amato teamed with actress Laura Gemser for a series of Black Emanuelle
films, starting withEMANUELLE IN BANGKOK (1976). This was followed by the quintessentialEMANUELLE
IN AMERICA (1977) and then - to jointly capitalize on the success
of "Man From Deep River" (and the other jungle exploitation
films) - came EMANUELLE
AND THE LAST CANNIBAL TRIBE (1977). The fourth entry in the series
was EMANUELLE
INVESTIGATES VIOLENCE TO WOMEN (aka EMANUELLE AROUND THE WORLD).
Here now is the fifth
and final project, shot in late 1978, released in Italy as "Emanuelle:
La Via Della Prostituzione" (the title on this print). In many
parts of Europe it was promoted as "Emanuelle and Girls of Madama
Claude" (an attempt to link it to Just Jaekin's Euro hit '"Madame
Claude" in '77). In America, where the Madma Claude moniker meant
nothing, it was called "Emanuelle and the White Slave Trade."
But poor distribution resulted in very few people seeing it at all.
Photo-journalist Emanuelle and her friend Susan are in Kenya. Emanuelle
is trying to secure an interview with the notorious Italian gangster Giorgio
Rivetti who now lives in luxary there. Eventually the pair manage to attach
themselves to a Prince who is visiting the gangster. Emanuelle and Susan
have fun with the two men. And between the sexual hijinx, Emanuelle manages
to get the interview. She then returns to America, but is curious about
a transaction she saw at the Kenya airport, when a woman seemed to be
sold as merchandise to a man. Once she gets clearance from her editor,
Emanuelle goes on the offensive and tracks down a prostitution racket
by going to work in a brothel.
An
Italian production; widescreen, totally uncut version (89 min.), in English
language, DVD encoded for WORLD FORMAT, ALL REGION NTSC, playable on any
American machine. Extras include trailers.
