POLICE
STORY 2013 is darker than the four preceding "PS"
films. Jackie Chan has put the comedy and stunts behind him for this ultra-gritty
story of a kidnapping gone wrong. Director Ding Shen - who worked with
Chan on a few earlier movies - constructs some tense sequences which are
ultimately meaner than the usual backdrop for a Jackie Chan production.
Liu Ye
plays the bad guy in pure scene-chewing exploitation fashion and the cat-n-mouse
game between him and Chan is the film's strongest point. The story deals
with police captain Zhong (Chan) going to meet his wayward daughter at
a seedy bar. Before he knows what's happening, he and his kid are taken
hostage by a gang of terrorists intent on getting their buddy out of jail.
Things go horribly wrong.
