Set in Shanghai's
Gangster era of the early 1900s, here is the story of a young man framed
and jailed by the chief of police. Cheng is forced to leave the life he
knows and the woman he loves. But after escaping prison, he embraces the
Shanghai criminal underworld where he quickly moves up the ladder to become
one of the most powerful bosses in Shanghai history. Soon, Chen finds
his gangster network lodged between the looming Japanese army and the
scheming local authorities. Matters get worse when he bumps into the former
love-of-his-life, now married to a struggling writer.
