Fleischer directed this lurid historical drama based on the scorching
novel by Kyle Onstott. Love it or hate it, there's no denying this film's
power. Good performances and taut filmmaking abound, but the average
viewer is likely to be repulsed by the gritty, realistic, ugly story
of slavery in the South. A plantation owner in the 1840s trains his
slaves to be bare-knuckle fighting champions, unaware that his wife
is having an affair with his top fighter.

Here's

to MANDINGO, helmed by legendary exploitation director Steve Carver.
The year is 1860 and town is New Orleans. A handsome brothel slave named
Drum is purchased by plantation owner Hammond Maxwell. Hammond recognizes
the value of this buck and plans for him to sire a bevy of attractive
slave children... children that will bring top dollar in the flesh marketplace.
But soon, the white women of the plantation are in heat for this black
stud.
