The late
Cornel Wilde made a career of beefcake roles in Hollywood actioners until
he formed his own production company and started directing in the mid-sixties
(his breakout film was THE NAKED PREY in 1966). Most significantly, Mr
Wilde has left two major cult films in his legacy... BEACH
RED (1967) and this one, NO BLADE OF GRASS, based on the
controversial SciFi best-seller by John Christopher. Nothing could have
prepared audiences for this film in 1970 - raw, uncompromising, ultra
violent - and as a result screenings were limited. Now this remarkable
film can finally be seen in all its grim and gory glory.
A deadly
virus has enveloped the Earth resulting in an environmental catastrophe
which will destroy civilization. Resources are used up; the Earth is poisoned
and polluted. Thousands are starving, millions are dead. Among the survivors
are the Custance family who have set upon a desperate quest for safety
in a savage world. But they are hunted by dangerous biker gangs thirsty
for blood and rape.
