Here's
the French skeleton in Jodie Foster's closet! Fifteen year old Jodie plays a
teen virgin desperate to "pop her cherry" (her words, not ours)
in this jailbait sex drama. Specifically,
the plot deals with schoolgirl Isabelle who becomes jealous when her fashion-model
sister invites blue-collar boyfriend Max to move in and share her bed. Isabelle
soon meets Max's older friend and manages to lose her virginity to him.
Certainly, Miss Foster's involvement makes this a maverick
cult project (produced
after "Taxi Driver" and slightly before her Disney pictures).
But it's truly remarkable to watch how nonchalantly the film embraces
a sexual relationship between an adult male and a 15-year-old girl. This
movie could never have been produced in the United States.
Jodie Foster also sings much of the film's soundtrack, including
the disco tune "When I Looked At Your Face" plus two French
songs "Je T'Attends Depuis La Nuit Des Temps" and "La Vie
C'est Chovette."
