Filmmaker
Oshii is best known for his award-winning anime projects (like GHOST
IN THE SHELL). In 2008, he introduced the "Assault Girls"
in a co-directed [with Kenji Fukasaku] the live-action omnibus movie
KILL.
Now the divas are back in this futuristic thrill show. The story deals
with three mercenaries dedicated to killing monsters in a virtual realm
called [wink] Avalon. It's set in a dystopian future where civilization
and creativity has crumpled, where people spend all their time glued
to video games. Armed with huge guns and high-tech armor, the heroines
are pitted against bad men and even badder monsters in a struggle for
survival.
Main
star Meisa Kuroki, lead singer for "Deadbolt," comes from
Miike's CROWS
ZERO but Rinko Kikuchi - as she did in the American film BABEL
- steals the show in the role of Lucifer.
