This film
(and the rest of the series) is generally considered to be the best, the
most accurate representation of the Ninja's role in feudal Japan. Of course,
there are many other ninja films, some are better made with bigger budgets.
But few have managed to capture the essence of this secretive band of
trained assassins. Based on the fictional bestseller by Tomoyoshi Murayama,
this is the story of Goemon Ishikawa, a 16th Century ninja, a Robin Hood
bandit, who opposes Lord Nobunaga Oda during his short but deadly reign.
