Much
has been written about the rise of gore pornography ("Gorno"
for short) in today's cinema. The critics are quick to point fingers at
James Wan & Leigh Whannell (for SAW) and Eli Roth (for HOSTEL), plus
sometimes [depending on how hip the critic is] Rob Zombie and Alexandre
Aja. But none of those filmmakers are truly Gorno directors; rather, they
are storytellers interested in constructing plots, plots which
happen to be enhanced by brutality, violence and - yes - gore.
Frankly,
it's a bit more difficult to find a true example of gore-porn today. But
if you're looking... then you've found it here. Vicious, mean-spirited
killings that linger on dismemberment, evisceration and excessive bloodletting.
This film goes far beyond bad taste into sheer lunacy. Director Germán
Magariños is insane.
The
wrap-around plot deals with a vigilante determined to eliminate a tough-on-crime
politician who is secretly a member of a sadistic Nazi Cult. Everything
in between is jaw-dropping Gorno. This movie could NEVER be made in the
United States today. It's a minor miracle that it's even available here.
