This sequel
takes up directly where the first one stops... a student named Raito found
a notebook called "Death Notes" which can be used as killing
tools. If he writes a name in the book, that person will die within 40
seconds. It seems that a demon accidentally dropped this book in the human
world where it was discovered and stolen by the student (in the first
movie). The boy has now embarked on a plan to create a perfect world by
eliminating criminals and bad people in general. Eventually police agencies
around the world begin to notice an unusual amount of "underworld"
deaths, and figure someone must be behind them. A master detective "L"
is hired to solve the case.
