Both movies
are essentially 18th Century action pics with a monstrous vindicator.
Each deals with a wicked ruler mistreating and enslaving his subjects.
When the abuse reaches a crescendo, the stone god Majin responds to the
prayers of the wretched and seeks vengeance. The special effects of Yoshiyuki
Kuroda are quite good, incorporating a mixture of stop-action and miniatures
with a "monster-suited" Majin used sparingly. Filmmaker Misumi
would go on to direct the BABY
CART movies.
