Over
the years so much has been written about the "tagged-on snuff-footage
ending" that most cult fans have forgotten (or maybe never ever knew
about·) the plot of this movie. The film was originally shot in Argentina
by American exploitation meisters Michael and Roberta Findlay (responsible
for the notorious CURSE
OF HER FLESH roughies) with Horacio Fredriksson and it was released
in South America under the title "Slaughter" (1971). Obviously
inspired by the Charles Manson murders, it dealt with a female gang of
drugged-out serial killers who concoct a plot to terrorize and kill an
actress and her entire perverse household. This, the original portion
of the film is surprisingly decadent, violent... and underrated. A few
years later, when the media began reporting evidence of Snuff Films being
real, the Findlays decided to take their South-of-the-Border exploitation
flick and add a new "snuff" ending. Thanks to a brilliant promotion
campaign, the rest is history.
