The story
of Hong Kong - as seen through the eyes of an English photojournalist
- during the last six months of its existence as a British colony, from
New Year's Day to June 30th 1997.
John (Jeremy
Irons) has spent a decade in HK. During that time he's ached for beautiful
Vivian (Gong Li) but has never had the nerve to approach her. Everything
changes when he discovers that he's suffering from a rare form of leukemia,
with only a few months to live (symbolically, not much different from
Hong Kong itself).
