Wong Jing
is not known for being an accomplished director. He's a respected producer,
yes. But the motion pictures helmed by Wong tend to be · in a word · terrible.
Having said that... EVIL CULT is one of his better efforts. It's still
flawed by an unnecessarily confusing plot, but when compared to the crap
he's usually churning out, this is a masterpiece.
Jet Li plays
a young man who is torn between avenging the death of his parents and
helping the killers in a battle against a greater enemy. The movie (with
elements of fantasy, horror and martial arts) centers around the quest
for supreme power, obtainable by whoever has possession of two magical
swords. There are also a number of other subplots, some surprisingly kinky.
