The classic,
elegantly produced S&M masterpiece from one of Japan's greatest directors,
Yasuzo Masumura, based on a notorious book by Edogawa Rampo.
Eiji Funakoshi
is convincing as Michio, a blind sculptor, who kidnaps a young girl and
eventually - after brutal S&M sessions - turns her into the perfect
statue. Mako Midori plays Aki, the unlucky model chosen to be inspiration
for Michio's greatest objet d'art. She is captured and dumped into his
workroom, a virtual maze of enormous sculptured body parts.
The captured
girl soon begins to identify with the mad artist. She is in awe of him
and his work; she gladly accepts her role as his slave. They begin S&M
games. Biting. Whipping. Domination. Then she finally agrees to be more
than the inspiration behind the art, but rather to "become"
the art.
