Following
the tradition of Thai pop cinema from the '50s and the ever-popular Spaghetti
Western, TEARS OF THE BLACK TIGER is a homage attempting to create something
new from something old.
The
story is simple - an outlaw and a rich girl are in love even though she
is betrothed to the new town sheriff. The outlaw soon finds himself at
odds with both the law and his gang. What truly matters here is cinematography.
With its sumptuously kitsch pastels and bright orange/red (tinted after
the shooting), director Wisit has created a film that is a true feast
for the eyes... like an old pulp bookcover come-to-life.
