LEY LINES is yet another look at one of Miike's most constant themes:
the Chinese community in Japan and how it is influenced by the Yakuza
underworld. Some critics have complained about the overt sexuality and
the graphic brutality in this movie, but for those viewers who are already
familiar with these Miike traits will praise LEY LINES for his return
to form.
Yet
ultimately, this time, Miike's characters are better drawn than many of
his previous efforts. It's the story of three first-generation Japanese
teenagers, born from Chinese parents, who decide to leave their hometown
for Tokyo, where they hope to "better fit in."
