This is a supernatural Jidaigeki (period action film) about a warrior
demon ˇ the title character, Aragami ˇ who wishes to end his
own, seemingly invincible, existence during a battle-to-the-death against
a worthy opponent. Enter two fatally wounded samurai warriors, one of
who is granted quasi-immortality so that he can fight against Aragami.
The
settingˇ Ancient Japan. Fleeing from enemies, two wounded samurai
arrive at a remote temple in the mountains. The doors are swung open by
a beautiful, exotic woman who beckons them inside. Unable to walk any
further, the two warriors collapse from exhaustion. One awakens to find
himself miraculously healed. He meets his "savior," a mysterious
character who reports that his friend died from wounds. The samurai is
then persuaded to stay the night. The host talks about the legend of theTengu,
a goblin that lives in the mountain and survives on the flesh of men.
This tengu is called Aragami. When the samurai asks if Aragami poses a
threat to the temple, his host answers - "I am Aragami." The
battle begins...
