2004 Academy Awards. Sadly, it didn't win, but the movie has won numerous

in Japan.
TWILIGHT
SAMURAI tells the story of a widowed samurai (Sanada) in the 19th Century
who has little time to pursue his profession's traditional "warrior"
lifestyle as he's more interested in caring for his mother and his two
young daughters. At the end of each workday, the "twilight samurai"
returns home to his family instead of joining other rowdy co-workers as
they nightly drunkenly carouse the village with loose women. The movie
dwells more on his humble homelife than on swordplay - that is - until
the climatic showdown at the film's conclusion when he tries to protect
a battered wife.
