A big-budget, all-star extravaganza from director Kenji Fukasaku that
has rightly been called "Sweeping" "Epic" "Breathtaking"
"Gory" and "Heroic." The powerful Yagyu family becomes
involved in a royal feud when the second shogunate is murdered. They back
Lord Iemitsu in his bid for the top position but there's bloodshed every
step of the way. Double crossing and secret alliances have become the
norm, even pitting father against son.
The
big reason to watch, however, is for the action. This film offers some
of the most extraordinary battle sequences of any chambara, accentuated
by the same type of bloody mayhem as seen in the BABY CART films. These
massive battles are gory and realistic, made even more poignant by the
powerful cast.
