This tale
- adapted freely by director Tsui Hark from a classic Chinese novel -
tells the story of a pair of snake sisters striving to attain human form
through sexual couplings. They seduce a scholar (successfully) and a monk
(not as successfully) in the process. The film is enlivened by a mesmerizing
Maggie Cheung performance, as she plays the more rambunctious of the sisters
(the other one is portrayed with less charisma by Joey Wang of CHINESE
GHOST STORY fame).
Here's some
food for thought - any movie that features a sequence wherein Ms Wang
and Ms Cheung bathe each other can't be bad. Also check out director Tsui
