As this opens,
we meet a documentary filmmaking team (three men and a woman) as they
are heading for the Amazon jungle to search for real cannibals. Then,
the crew is reported missing and a rescue team, headed by anthropologist
Professor Monroe (Kerman), is sent from the USA. This team encounters
a tribe called the Tree-people who give them canister of film containing
the material this shot during the first group's search. Back in the States,
the "documentary" film gets developed, and everybody is in for
a tremendous shock. CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST is a notorious motion picture,
seldom seen but often discussed, which has been banned just about everywhere
in the world. It was even banned in director Deodato's homeland, Italy.
In fact, in an unprecedented move, Deodato had to endure an obscenity
trial after being unable to convince Italian authorities that the footage
was indeed staged. Deodato lost the original trial, and all prints were
to be destroyed. However, he managed to overturned the ruling in the early
'80s.This is the first official DVD release containing the complete, unedited
film (the British release from last year is missing 15 minutes); plus
it also features two interviews with Ruggero Deodato, conducted in English,
and the original theatrical trailers.
