A gunfighter,
El Topo, and his young son come to a village where the inhabitants have
been massacred, seemingly the work of bandits now rampaging a Franciscan
monastery nearby. After setting things right, El Topo chooses to abandon
his son to the care of the monks while continuing his journey with a wanton
named Mara. She, along with a mysterious woman in black, convinces El
Topo to find and defeat the "four master gunmen of the desert." After
all the gunplay, the two women leave El Topo dying in the desert. However,
he is rescued by a clan of deformed mountain people and eventually he
finds himself at odds with the inhabitants of a corrupt Western town and
its weird religious cult.
