original title ANGELA
IS THE FIREWORKS WOMAN
director: Wes Craven music
by: David Hess
starring Jennifer Jordan (as Sarah Nicholson) · Helen Madigan
· Erica Eaton · Eric Edwards
· Jamie Gillis
The
story deals with a young woman named Angela who has been given an unusual
gift (seemingly by the Devil) of sexual allurement. She is irresistible.
The immediate result is an incestual relationship between Angela and
her brother Peter. The affair ends when he leaves home to become a priest.
Despite her attempts to lure him back, Peter rejects Angela. She is
dejected. But Angela is still irresistible to everyone she meets and
finds herself pulled into a series of sexual [and depraved] adventures
until she is finally rescued by Peter during a lurid orgy.
As curious
as this film may seem - especially to fans of Wes Craven - please, note:
this is a hardcore XXX movie with many scenes of graphic sexuality as
well as BD, S&M and rape.
Today, LAST
HOUSE ON THE LEFT is considered one of the top 5 horror films
of all time. However, upon it's release in 1972, the movie's gritty sex
and violence caused much censorship (in numerous cases, theater projectionists
were forced to make impromptu edits with police officials standing over
them as the film unspooled). The movie was seized throughout the country
and taken to court. Many times the prints simply disappeared in transit
from theater to theater. It all resulted in huge loses for Wes Craven
and his struggling production company. He once lamented to his secretary
"none of these troubles would've happened if he had followed his original
instincts and made LAST HOUSE as a hardcore XXX movie" (take into
consideration that almost half of the cast were previously involved in
porn movies, from Fred Lincoln (Weasel) to Sandra Peabody (Mari) to Jeramie
Rain (Sadie) to Lucy Grantham (Phyllis). In an interview with lead actor
David Hess, he claimed to be the one who talked Craven out of continuing
to shoot LAST HOUSE as a porno.
But, regardless - when
the smoke settled - the reality was Wes Craven didn't have the money to
make his next film [based on a script he had already finished called THE
HILLS HAVE EYES]. For the next 2 years he worked as an editor
for Peter Locke's adult film company in New York. And then he finally
decided to invest his cash in a hardcore film - under the pseudonym Abe
Snake - hoping to raise the rest of the money needed for THE
HILLS HAVE EYES.
Some people have questioned
whether 'Abe Snake' (an obvious alias) is really Wes Craven. But
after the first 15 minutes it will be obvious; the editing, cinematography,
and pacing are SO similar to LAST HOUSE. Plus, Wes
Craven is actually IN this movie playing the Fireworks Man (the
Devil) [see pics left and centrer below]!
