Director Qiu Chuji
[Qiu Donghua)
starring Sandrine Pinna · Ren Quan · Lee Wei ·
Cui Jie · Wendy Gao · Christa Yan
Sandrine
Pinna is exceptional playing Wenxin, a hairdresser working in Singapore.
She's in love with Luo Jia and they are planning to marry soon. But
unfortunately, a friend named Anne is also infatuated with Luo Jia.
And she has plans of her own. As the film opens, Wenxin is kidnapped
and mercilessly tortured by her love rival. Then, three months later,
Wenxin is found alive in the middle of a busy highway; she is seemingly
a victim of amnesia. Even stranger, her friend Anne has gone missing.
But that is only the beginning of Wenxin's ordeal as her memory slowing
begins to return. She is haunted by frightening hallucinations. After
Anne's decomposed body is found, her spirit seems to slip into Wenxin's
body and take control of her.
Numerous
Asian publications are calling this 'China's Best Horror Film'
which has put the movie in a difficult position [since that country's
censors do not allow distribution of horror/supernatural films]. Director
Qui Chuji insists that the story is more accurately described as a 'natural
terror that often permeates in human beings.' But regardless of
the film's battle with Chinese censors, director Qui has proven himself
with this debut feature. For the past ten years, he developed his unique
style through a successful career in commercial advertising.
