MAR [Evil Brain]
director Joselito Rodriguez
starring Joaquin Cordero · Santo · Norma Suarez ·
Fernando Osés · Alberto Insua
Legendary
masked Mexican wrestler Santo was born Rodolfo Guzman Huerta in Hidalgo
Mexico. He had become Mexico's #1 luchador by the early '50s. At the
time, a graphic artist named Jose Guadalupe Cruz started publishing
a "Santo" comic book which pitted the hero against
an army of villains. Despite his popularity, Santo refused movie offers
[he famously declined the starring role in Rene Cardona's SILVER
MASK (1954) even though it had been written specifically for
him]. In 1961, Santo finally agreed to make three independent films
in Cuba for his friend producer/actor Fernando Osés. This movie
was the first of those original three. It should be mentioned that Santo
did not have the starring role until the third movie, SANTO
VS THE ZOMBIES.
Here,
Santo plays an undercover police officer called Silver Mask. He is kidnapped
by evil Dr Campos (popular actor Joaquin Cordero of HELL
OF FRANKENSTEIN/DR
SATAN fame) who brainwashes Santo into becoming part of the
gangster underworld. Another masked cop named Incognito (played by Fernando
Osés) tries to free Santo from the shackles of crime.
