Based on William Sansom's controversial
novel The Last Days of Sandra Lee, Nancy Kwan stars as
a secretary named Majorie [not the aforementionedSandra] who is
engaged to soon be married. But she is having serious reservations about
her boyfriend and whether he is - in fact - the 'one.' Her doubts are
further complicated by flirtatious office workers and sexual pressure
from her boss [thus, the tag line: Can a secretary say NO when her boss
says YES]. Today, this social comedy is an elephant-in-the-room for the
contemporary me-too movement.
While attending England's Royal Ballet School, Nancy Kwan was discovered
by producer Ray Stark who cast her as the bohemian prostitute in The
World of Suzie Wong (1960). That hit was immediately followed
by the Hollywood musical Flower Drum Song (1961). Ms Kwan
didn't like the pressure of living in Los Angels so she moved back to
the UK, leaving her studio publicity team behind. In England, her persona
changed to a sexier image, concentrating a smaller projects, resulting
in THE
MAIN ATTRACTION, the bawdy TAMAHINE
and, of course, this film.
