Based on the popular manga Nozoki
Ana (Peephole) by Rahson, this is the rather shocking dark
comedy about a female serial killer named Rio Miyaichi who becomes romantically
involved with her neighbor, Etsuro, after his unsuccessful suicide. He
tries to kill himself after getting thrown out of his university. But,
instead, Etsuro falls in love with Rio, essentially becoming her slave.
Rio is a serial killer, seemingly working with some secret organization,
but despite her apparent 'license to kill,' don't expect some kind
of Dexter justification here. She does not appear to kill people
who 'deserve it.' No. Rio kills randomly. And that leads to one fucked-up
relationship with Etsuro. Perhaps, there is further clarification [at
the very least, a back story] within the pages of the manga. But director
Asakura doesn't take time for such trivialities.
