Supporting
actress Yuko Tanaka won numerous awards (including the Japanese Academy
Award in 1982) for her portrayal of Oei, the daughter of controversial
artist Katsushika Hokusai. He is best know for his woodblock art depicting
a sexual encounter between a nude woman and an octopus. This movie follows
his life (and loves), spanning over 70 years, as he experiments with erotic
art during the Japanese Edo period.
