DYING IS A CRIME (1968) early Paul Naschy rarity
DYING IS A CRIME (1968) early Paul Naschy rarity
3361DVD

Original Spanish title AGONIZANDO EN EL CRIMEN [Agonizing Crime]

director: Enrique L Eguiluz
starring: Juan Logan · Irene Gutierrez Caba · Jose Rubio · Yelena Samarina · Paul Naschy (as David Molba)

A surgeon's girlfriend dies in the operating room and he begins to kill medical students [presumably so they won't be given the opportunity to butcher people on the operation table]. In his demented state, this mad doctor also amputates the hands of his victims so they cannot harm his beloved, whom he thinks is still alive.

This MegaRare film is an example of a Spanish Giallo, with the biggest difference (compared to a traditional Giallo) being it's not a who-done-it. Instead, this is a tense Euro thriller. Of course, this movie is best know for the early performance by Paul Naschy [playing the police inspector, billed as David Molba], shot a couple months after his other David Molba film, FURY OF JOHNNY KID. Director Eguiluz was so impressed with Naschy's job here that the two immediately began working on Paul Naschy's debut as the werewolf Waldemar Daninsky in the seminal horror film MARK OF THE WOLFMAN [Frankenstein's Bloody Terror].

A Spanish film with English subtitles, 85 min,
widescreen, encoded for ALL REGION, playable on any American DVD machine.
Extras include selected Paul Naschy theatrical trailers.
