Based
on the 2000 novel Liu Lang Di Qiu [The Wandering Earth]
novel by Chinese Science Fiction author Liu Ci-Xin, this is the award-winning
blockbuster movie that conquered the Asian boxoffice in 2019, spreading
Internationally a year later. It's massive story of survival, as humanity
attempts to save Earth when the sun starts dying out. Unless something
is done, the planet will soon be engulfed by the inflating sun. Scientists
develop an unconventional escape plan that - while theoretically possible
- puts the entire human race from danger. By using thousands of infusion-powered
engines, the planet Earth will exit the solar system and embark on a 2,500
year journey to the orbit of a star 4.5 light years away!
This
was a transformation role for lead actor Jing Wu (Jacky Wu), switching
from a martial arts career (TAI
CHI, FATAL
CONTACT [Underground Fist], et al) to stoic hero. The lead
actress, Angel Zhao - playing Han Duo-duo here - is a Chinese television
staple, starring in eight different TV series, currently Zai Yi
Qi (Be Together). Some sharp viewers will recognize Li Guang-ji
from the fantasy hit HANSON
AND THE BEAST.
