A young boy named
Xiao befriends Amao, a 36 foot crocodile that lives at his uncle's zoo/sanctuary.
Times are tough. Money and food is scarce. So Uncle Liu is forced to sell
his crocodiles to a gangster who plans to put them on his menu of exotic
sushi meals. But before Amao is butchered, she manages to escape, causing
mayhem in the countryside.
This film was a huge
hit in China, spawning numerous other giant croc films. An Australian
company made some cultural edits (specifically the fully nude scenes of
the young boys swimming) and released it Internationally under the rather
misleading title CrocZilla. The star is Barbie Hsu, playing
the unforgettable character Wen Yan who lost her life savings (100,000
Euros) when the crocodile ate her purse. She is a pop singer in Beijing
and has previously starred in John Woo's REIGN
OF ASSASSINS and SILK.
