The director of
ONG
BAK is back with a slam-bam tale of an autistic young woman
named Zen with powerful martial art skills. She takes it upon herself
to seek out and eliminate gangsters who have swindled her mom. A bit
later, she assists her estranged father - a Japanese gangster played
by Hiroshi Abe - when he returns to Thailand seeking vengeance against
a Thai mobster.
Ms Yanin is a
24 year old actress who makes her debut with this incredible actioner.
She is an accomplished black-belt martial arts' master who had been
working as a stunt woman (DARNA)
in the Philippines when discovered by director Prachya Pinkaew, the
current President of Thai Film Directors' Association. While her talent
is breathtaking and undeniable, she also benefits from the assured
camerawork of Mr Pinkaew. He is an expert filmmaker, especially when
dealing with martial arts, and ultimately responsible for bringing
Tony Jaa to International notoriety with the aforementioned ONG
BAK. When Tony had his meltdown during the shooting of ONG
BAK 2 [refer to the article in Asian
Cult Cinema #62], director Rinkaew refused to work with him
for ONG
BAK 3. In fact - now that Tony Ja was considered undependable
by Rinkaew - he would never work with him again. Instead, he began
to spend more time as a producer, concentrating on the next movie
from his new female action star JeeJa Yanin, RAGING
PHOENIX.
