Police officer Wong is on the trail of a serial killer whose female victims are all either 'starved-or-carved' until they weigh exactly 70lbs. A fistful of colorful characters speckle the landscape, including Cherrie, a beauty salon employee losing her regular customers one by one to the psychopath. There's also a pretty-boy paparazzi/journalist from China who is trying to solve the murders. Members of a "Slim Queen" pageant begin to fear for their lives after one of the participants is found dead with her legs cut off to achieve an absurd 70 pounds.

Director Marco Mak does a remarkably good job at keeping the narrative crisp and terrifying despite the jarring sadistic script by producer Wong Jing. The result is a captivating murder mystery which also works as a macabre commentary on people's obsession with losing weight. Filmmaker Mak started his career in 1974 as an editor for Shaw Bros and he continued that position through 130+ films including the ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA series and RESORT MASSACRE. By comparison, he has helmed very few movies but is probably best known to genre fans for his Mafia HK actioner WO HU [OPERATION UNDERCOVER].
