Seldom-Seen
Controversial Ralph Bakshi Animated Blaxplotation Masterpiece
director:
Ralph Bakshi
starring: Barry White · Scatman Crothers · Charles Gordone
· Sam Laws · Candy All · Don Diamond
This movie could NEVER
be made today in these politically correct times. But one can't help but
wonder HOW THE HELL DID IT GET MADE AT ALL? The producers have fought
numerous lawsuits (mostly due to the ballsy SONG OF THE SOUTH parody).
Since it's initial release in 1975, this movie was continuously the target
for angry protest groups who took offense to the unbridled racist and
sexual humor. But Ralph Bakshi's controversial masterpiece has survived.
"This is it Folks!" The original, fully uncut print
is finally available.
Written and directed by Ralph Bakshi (who also did "Fritz the Cat,"
"Heavy Traffic," "American Pop" et all), this
movie is not only his best work, but it is arguably the greatest piece
of animation ever created. Here is the bastard child of the Seventies
Pop Culture, lampooning everything from Disney musicals to blaxploitation
to big-titted babes.
The movie - a mixture
of live action and animation - begins as Barry White (yes THAT Barry White)
helps two friends escape from prison. When they get stuck at a police
roadblock, the older prisoner tells the story of a rabbit, a bear and
a fox who rise to the top of the crime ranks in Harlem by eliminating
a black con man, a racist white cop and the Godfather of the Mafia. .
