The plot
deals with the delicate balance (the ying and yang, so to speak) of Martial
Arts in general, Karate specifically... the dilemma of violent confrontation
vs. moral restraint. The action takes place in nationalistic Japan of
the '30s when war-hungry army officials decide to invade and take over
a peaceful dojo on Japan's southernmost island of Kyushu. The question
of when and how to use fighting methods is key to this action-packed drama.
Similar to
other recent martial arts films (like
UNDERGROUND and THE
SHOWDOWN) this one boasts of "real fight sequences without the
use of CGI or annoying wirework." That is the movie's main drawing
card.
