"HE FIGHTS
LIKE A MAN SO HE CAN BECOME A WOMAN!" Based on the real-life story
of Parinya Charoenphol, a Muaythai boxer who underwent a sex change operation
to become a woman. BEAUTIFUL BOXER is a poignant action film that punches
straight through a series of breathtaking fight scenes into the heart
and soul of the audience. Believing he's a girl trapped in a boy's body
since childhood, Parinya Charoenphol (affectionately known as Nong Toom
in Thailand) sets out to master the "most masculine" and lethal
sport of Thai boxing in order to achieve his ultimate goal of total femininity.
Touching, yet packed with breathtaking kickboxing sequences (similar to
ONG-BAK), this movie traces Nong Toom's childhood, through his teen years
as a traveling monk, into the grueling days of boxing camps and then into
his life as a professional fighter. This role earned Asanee Suwan the
2004 Supannahongsa Award (Thailand's equivalent to the Oscar) for Best
Actor. BEAUTIFUL BOXER also features a supporting-actor award performance
by Sorapong Chatree (as Nong Toom's coach). Kyoko Inoue, one of Japan's
top female wrestlers plays herself in the film (she has fought the real
Nong Toom in 1988).
