Director Gordon Parks (SHAFT) portrayal of blues singer Huddie Leadbetter, the legendary LEADBELLY. Covering the good times and the bad from his 20s thru the 40s, this is a nonflinching story of a black man who knew the blues first hand. Much of his life was spent on chain gangs in the South (as a result of being convicted of murder), but even in prison he became well known for the songs he composed.
