KILL THEM ALL AND COME BACK ALONE (1967) Enzo Castellari
KILL THEM ALL AND COME BACK ALONE (1967) Enzo Castellari

Chuck Connors in Enzo G Castellari's Epic Spaghetti Western

Original Italian Title: AMMAZZALI TUTTI E TORNA SOLO [Kill Them All and Come Back Alone]
also known as GO KILL EVERYBODY AND COME BACK ALONE

director: Enzo G Castellari
starring: Chuck Connors · Frank Wolff · Franco Citti · Leo Anchoriz · Men Fury · Ken Wood · Alberto Dell'Acqua

Clyde MacKay is the leader of a band of renegade mercenaries who join forces with two Confederate officers to rob some Union gold (hidden inside a stash of dynamite). The heist goes well but MacKay's orders are - afterwards - to kill everyone in his gang and come back alone with the gold. This is a task that isn't so easy for him to do but some double crossing makes it easier to swallow. Clyde eventually meets up with his two bosses who have the same idea regarding him.

This is a remarkably strong, testosterone-infused Spaghetti Western [without a single female in the cast], well directed by Enzo G. Castellari (who made numerous legendary Westerns - including KEOMA and JONATHAN OF THE BEARS - as well as some exceptional genre motion pictures like DESPERATE MOMENTS and KYRA HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE LAKE), with very good performances especially by Chuck Connors.

Before Chuck Connors became an actor in the mid '50s, he was a professional basketball player [the first to shatter a backboard while playing with the Boston Celtics in 1946] and baseball player [initially for the Brooklyn Dodgers and then the Chicago Cubs, 1948-52]. Chuck Connors made a whopping 134+ films but surprisingly few in Europe (one noteable exception is Andrea Bianchi's ultra-sleazy MANIAC KILLER). He is best known for his role of Lucas McCain in ABC's Rifleman series. He also Mr Connors died from lung cancer at age 72 in November 1992.
