Through the years
this film has become known as The Brazilian Star Wars. It
has seldom been seen outside of South America. "GUERRA DOS PLANETAS"
(Planet Wars) was the brainchild of Renato Aragao a Brazilian producer
who made a name (and lots of money) for himself by creating The Trapalhoes
[The Tramps], a slapstick comedy troupe that manages to make the Three
Stooges look cosmopolitan. The Trapalhoes were Brazilian TV stars in the
'60s, moving to motion pictures in the '70s and '80s.
In 1978 they starred
in this "parody" of STAR WARS. The story starts with the Trapalhoes
being visited by a spaceship. Pilot Flik convinces the gang to go to his
planet and help fight the evil Zuco (a Darth Vader wanna-be) who has captured
Princess Mirna. Once there, the Trapalhoes, led by Didi [the forementioned
producer Renato Aragao] get involved in various adventures ranging from
a battle with the "Sand People" to meeting some babes in the
desert and taking them to an intergalactic disco.
This is either gold.
