Seldom
does a movie instigate this kind of heated reaction. Concerned dissidents
asked the Greek government to ban the film while numerous theaters received
bomb threats. The critics were NOT complaining
about the nudity on the screen, rather they were upset over the subject
matter. Director Oikonomoy publicly met the criticism with an emphatic
refusal to pull the film or make any edits.
A 20-year-old
sailor named Peter finds himself on a deserted Greek island with no
other man in sight. This island - somehow - is populated entirely with
women. Regardless of age, it appears they all want to have sex with
Peter. It's a flagrant male sexual fantasy. Or is it? Everything quickly
transmutes into a nightmare. The film quickly looses its quirky erotic-comedy
edge and begins to explore the primal fear men have for women.
