British
actor James Purefoy plays Solomon Kane, perhaps the most unusual superhero
in pulp fiction. Based on cult stories by Robert E Howard (best known
as the creator of "Conan the Barbarian"), here is a 16th century
soldier who - due to his brutal and cruel behavior - loses his soul to
the devil. Figuring that he's damned anyway, Kane decides to challenge
Satan by dedicating his life to helping people and fighting evil in the
world.
Specifically, this movie deals with Kane's attempt to
rescue a Puritan girl who's been taken prisoner by an evil sorcerer who
also butchered her entire family.
