A Brutal
Masterpiece from One of Europe's Great Cult Directors!
director:
Nicolas Winding Refn
starring:
Mads Peter Olsen · Thorir Sigurjonsson · Yves Chevalier
· Christine Alderson
As of
this writing, director Nicolas Winding Refn remains relatively unknown
in the United States. This is a damn shame. For the past decade, his Euro
productions (the PUSHER trilogy, FEAR X, and BRONSON)
have earning Refn an exalted position in world cinema. Now, his VALHALLA
RISING has taken this director to new heights.
Set in
1000 AD, the story follows a mute slave warrior named One-Eye. He is gifted
with supernatural strength but haunted by visions of the future. After
winning his freedom in a torturous blood battle, One-Eye stumbles upon
a band of Christian Viking crusaders setting sail for the Holy Land of
Jerusalem. He joins their voyage. But once they are on the sea, a mysterious
mist engulfs their boat. Later, emerging from the fog, they discover themselves
in a strange new land (of America).
