director:
Luc Besson with Pierre Morel

Tony
D'Amario · Bibi Naceri
It's been described as a super-charged ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK... True, but
this movie is also SO much more. Luc Besson has obviously been influenced
deeply by the recent Thai films ONG-BAK and BORN TO FIGHT. This is his
homage to that brand of martial arts action. BANLIEUE 13 is less a movie
than a series of elaborately choreographed stunts tried together with
a less-than-important plot.
The
year is 2010 and France has an out of control crime problem. High-risk
areas are cordoned off within brick walls. Inside, neighborhoods have
resorted to self-government, in the style of the Wild West. One such area
is Banlieue 13 where vigilante good-guy Leito finds himself on the wrong
side of the townboss.
