WHITE STAR (1983) Dennis Hopper + David Hess Uncut Euro Print
1986DVD
Dennis
Hopper's Best Performance, second only to "Blue Velvet"
director: Roland Klick
starring: Dennis Hopper · Terrance Robay · David Hess · Krista Mahaffey
Dennis
Hopper plays a rock-n-roll manager named Kenneth Barlow. He claims to
have a grasp of the music industry due to his 'involvement' with the Rolling
Stones [he was either their producer, road manager... or, quite possibly,
nothing at all]. Currently he is grooming his newest discovery - a futuristic
keyboardist named Moody White Star - for success. Kenneth, however, is
not at all concerned with Moody's music; rather, he has developed an elaborate
promotional campaign based on concocted riots [orchestrated by his assistant
played by the menacing David Hess], bogus promotional merchandise, and
even an assassination attempt which goes horribly wrong.
Here
is one of a handful of motion pictures directed by German filmmaker Roland
Klick (best known in the United States for his contemporary Spaghetti
Western DEADLOCK).
While WHITE STAR is officially his final film, there
is a rumor that he came to America in the early '90s and continues to
direct TV movies under an undisclosed alias.
This
film - while a boxoffice hit in Europe - was treated reprehensibly in
the USA where producer Roger Corman edited it down to 62 minutes, added
unrelated footage of TSOL from the movie Suburbia, and released
it as Let It Rock in 1988.
Here, now, is the fully uncut European version in English.
A German
film in English language (shot in English); widescreen format (1.85:1),
uncut version (90 minutes), DVD encoded for ALL REGION NTSC WORLD FORMAT.
