For
Candra Torres, a honeymoon camping trip becomes a brutal nightmare when
a crazed hunter murders her husband, then rapes and tortures her. Under
the madman's spell (called Stockholm Syndrome today), Candra
helps him convince the police that her husband died in a hunting accident.
Thus, the case is closed. A persistent detective senses something is
wrong, however, and attempts to reexamine the facts. Soon, he begins
to realize that Candra had been a victim of brainwashing.
This
horrific psycho-drama was directed in 1981 by Paul Wendkos under a contract
with CBS television. Despite an intensive TV campaign promoting the
film ['for mature audiences only'], the network was forced to
cancel the broadcast after being inundated with protests and complaints
from concerned parent and church groups. Two years later, CBS quietly
scheduled the film in a much later (11:30 PM) Time Slot under the title
Ordeal of Candra.
It has since disappeared.
