original German
title: TORTURA [Torture]
also known as RAW MEAT 2 and RAW MEAT/DEATH LINE
director: Marcel Walz and Michael Effenberger
starring: Anna Trageser · Martina Scholzhorn · Anton Grunbeck
· Christiana Amberger
A group
of young women are abducted by sadistic cannibals living under the subway
tunnels of Munich. This is a well-made [albeit, grisly explicit] reworking
of 1972's RAW
MEAT
(DEATH LINE, British Title), the story of cannibals living
in the depths of the subway system. For this film, a group of young
people drive to the industrial outskirts of Munich to go partying at
a 'warehouse rave.' But the festivities become intertwined with
jealousies and bad blood, resulting in a pissed-off boyfriend angerly
abandoning his female companions and leaving them to find their own
way home. The three girls decide the subway is the best choice ["Do
we want to spend $150 on a taxi or $10 on a train?"]. But a subway
station at 3 AM turns out to be the wrong decision.
Here
is the first film by Michael Effenberger, accompanied by the talents
of the more prolific Xtreme director Marcel Walz [best known for his
torture-porn epics LA
PETITE MORT and LA
PETITE MORE 2: NASTY TAPES]. Mr Walz has since moved to Hollywood
where he continues to re-envision the horror genre with projects like
That's A Wrap and a remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis'
Blood Feast. Also, a quick note:
kudos to the three actresses playing the victims here. Their performances
are pitch-perfect, believable and sympathetic. But obviously, the motion
picture is recommended for acquired tastes only.
